How to Make CannaCream with AVB

Making CannaCream with Already Vaped Bud (AVB) is the easiest way to use the same bud to get high twice!  You’ve already got decarbed cannabis in your vape’s oven chamber - instead of throwing it in the trash, toss it in a mason jar and save it up!  

All of our base infusion recipes (cream, butter, oil) call for an eighth (3.5 grams) of decarbed flower.  However, that assumes the bud was decarbed in heat without exceeding the boiling point of the THC cannabinoid molecule.  The vape chamber heats the bud to a point slightly exceeding the boiling point of THC so that you can take in THC while vaping.  Thus, about 65-75% of the THC is vaporized, leaving us roughly 25-35% of the original THC concentration.  To achieve the same potency using AVB as we do decarbed flower, we need roughly 3-4 times the weight.  

Let’s talk dosing real quick.  An eighth of flower at 20% potency equals about 700mg of THC cannabinoid weight, about 600mg of which is usable for recipes after accounting for cannabinoid loss in decarbing and infusing.  If we consume 75% of that through vaping, we have about 150mg remaining.  We’ll need four-times the weight to get back to a 600 mg infusion recipe.

Once you have 12-14gs of AVB saved up in your jar, it's time to infuse!

What you need:

12-14g of AVB

A large, empty teabag

A pint of heavy cream - half and half and whole milk can also work, but because THC is so highly fat soluble, the higher the fat content, the better. For non-dairy individuals, coconut milk is the best alternative to dairy milk for this infusion recipe.

A medium-size saucepan

How to do it:

1. Transfer the AVB from the mason jar into a tea bag.  Some people prefer to stick the AVB right in the cream and then strain it out after - this is also acceptable but I prefer the tidiness of a teabag

2. Pour the pint of cream into the saucepan and set the temperature to low-medium

3. Place the teabag o’ weed in the cream, leaving the strings to dangle over the side

4. Let the cream simmer for 20-30 mins, periodically moving the teabag around by the strings and slightly squeezing it with your fingers periodically to help it steep. 

NOTE: DO NOT ALLOW THE CREAM TO BOIL.  It WILL make a huge mess and ruin your infusion.  We want it to slightly simmer - as it gets close to boiling you’ll notice the cream start to creep up the side of the pan.  That’s your sign that it’s getting too hot

5. Remove the cream from the stove top and let it cool before transferring it into a clean mason jar.  Discard the teabag of AVB

That’s it! Now you have a home full of the aroma of freshly popped popcorn (for some reason) and a mason jar with approximately 600mg of infused CannaCream.
